Why Amy Poehler is our #WCW

I will be the first one to admit that I have a completely full blown girl crush on Amy Poehler. Not only is she hilarious, gorgeous, and the star of my favorite show ever (Parks and Rec, duh), but she is also all about empowering women.

Poehler runs the organization, Smart Girls at the Party. Smart Girls at the Party is all about empowering women, its mission is "to help young women and the young at heart with the process of cultivating their authentic selves. We change the world by being ourselves, and being ourselves is a life-long quest."

As a young women in her early 20’s I’m stumbling trying to figure out my way in life and organizations like Smart Girls at the Party our great resources when you feel down and need reassurance that everyone is just trying to find their way in life.

If you haven’t yet, check out the Smart Girl videos on YouTube. Not only are they funny but they convey the message that smart is powerful, smart is nice, and smart is fun.

So thank you Amy Poehler not only for being hilarious and for bringing us Leslie Knope, but for showing women everyone that it is okay to be yourself and embrace everything that makes you beautiful.

Indy Welcomes All T-Shirt DIY

 Indy Welcomes All  T-Shirt Reconstruction

This last month, Indianapolis hosted the NCAA Men’s Division Final Four and the end of Division 1 men’s basketball championship. Indianapolis is known to host a variety of conventions, special events, and sporting events. This year, “Indy Welcomes All” shirts, created by Indy Hub, were passed out to many local businesses prior to the games. The simple message on the shirts is an effort to repair Indianapolis’s image after the religious freedom law began a heated debate, and catapulted Indiana into national news. This campaign will last much longer than the Final Four, and aims to restore Indianapolis’s image of hospitality and openness to all types of people. According to Jessica Higdon, with the Indy Chamber, this bill will cost "Indiana businesses around one billion dollars in loses of revenue from business and tourism" (WTHR).

Being a women’s fashion boutique, we decided to make the T-shirts have a more fashionable cut. Enter: Scissors and some elbow grease. Intern Sarah and I decided to create a crop-top, a T-back workout shirt, and an off-the-shoulder look. This is what we came up with!

Off the shoulder shirt:

Mixing Prints

Mixing prints

It’s a struggle mixing in prints in your outfit. Suppose you fall in love with an absolutely adorable printed piece at Lucky B. You want to try on the piece, but at the same time, you’re hesitant to. You’re unsure how to coordinate it with the clothes in your closet! Worry not ladies. Here are some tips on mixing your favorite prints, so you can enjoy more outfit options!

Bold x Small
Not small x small or large x large. Try mixing bold prints with small prints. The danger of mixing bold prints together (or small prints together) is that it takes away the essence of a standout piece. Bold x Small compliments each other, without overpowering neither piece.

Match colors
When in doubt what to mix and match, focus on the colors. Similar colors or complimentary colored pieces are recommended to match. Just have some fun with your favorite colors!
Mixing pastels like light blue and baby pink are great, because they can make a statement while not being overpowering. On the other hand, the combination of black and white is a staple for prints, with a classy feel. Black and white also act as a neutral for prints, so it’s a go to when you’re unsure of what to match.

Bring some solid colors
If layering many prints start to overwhelm you, just replace a printed piece of clothing or accessory with a solid color piece. Layering in a solid color will tone down your outfit, calming the overall look.
Let’s say you are planning on wearing your favorite pair of Tropical Abstract Pom Shorts from Lucky B with a white and navy bold stripped blazer. You can pair this outfit with a simple white V-neck T-shirt, and an elegant navy clutch purse, to keep your style classy and full of color.

Try mix and matching whatever is most comfortable for you. Lucky B has many fun printed pieces in store and online!
