WCW: Adele

With a powerful voice and an even more powerful spirit, Adele is the perfect choice for our #WCW this week!

Adele's rise to fame began in 2008 with the release of her first album, 19. Her success in the United States was slow, but Saturday Night Live put her on top of the charts by Fall 2008, and she went on to win Best New Artist at the GRAMMYs in 2009. Her sophomore album, 21, dropped in early 2011. However, she had to undergo throat surgery. But Adele came back on top as she made her return to music live music at the 2012 GRAMMYs, where she also won six awards, including the night's top honor - Album of the Year.

With continuous momentum, it's no surprise Adele's newest album, 25, has been a massive success. The debut single, "Hello," debuted number one nearly worldwide and was the first song in the United States to sell one million digital copies in a week. When the full album was released in November, Adele broke records for having the largest debut for most copies sold in the United States, the U.K., Canada, and New Zealand. More than 3 million copies of 25 were sold in the U.S. in the first week, and it's charted to surpass 5 million albums sold by the end of the week.

Adele's recognition goes beyond the music industry. In 2013, she won the GRAMMY, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for her song "Skyfall," which was featured in the James Bond film with the same name. She holds Guiness World Records for her insane and unprecedented sales. TIME magazine named her as one of the most influential people in the world in 2012.

Even with all her success, Adele has very much remained the same. She still maintains a strong sense of self and amazing sense of humor. During her album release week, she dressed up as an Adele impersonator for the BBC. Adele also gave birth to her son, Angelo, October 2012, showing women that, yes, you really can have it all.

We congratulate Adele on all of her record-breaking achievements, and we can't wait to see, or hear, what she does next!
