BB Cream 101

Beauty balm, or BB cream as many people know it, may be the perfect solution for summer makeup and skin care. When it is humid, sticky, and ninety degrees, the last thing most women feel like doing is applying a full face of makeup.  BB creams may be the perfect alternative to full coverage foundation. It acts as a primer, provides moderate coverage, and most importantly has SPF in the formulation. It is also simple to apply and low maintenance.

The biggest issue I’ve had with using BB creams is finding the correct brand and color. I tried a few on my own and wasn’t extremely satisfied with the results, so I figured it was time to have a professional help me find a shade that worked well for my skin. I went to Sephora, and had them read my skin with a new device they have (I highly recommend this). It takes pictures of your skin and gives an extremely accurate description and recommendation of products for your skin. From there it’s just deciding which brand you want. Most BB creams have sunscreen and moisturizer built in, but they are all slightly different in formulation. This means you might have to test a few to see which one works best for you. The great thing is that they work for all skin types!

After you’ve found the perfect BB cream for you, the rest is a piece of cake. Just use a foundation brush or your fingers and apply a small amount to cover your face. You can add more or less depending on the amount of coverage you want. It can also be used as a primer to the rest of your makeup if you want a full coverage look. Presto! Now you can go conquer the summer one BB cream at a time.
